No need to study. But do prepare yourself for a truly entertaining theatrical production. When Quiz opens on 31 March at the Noël Coward Theatre, it’ll be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced in the West End before.

Yesterday, we went behind the scenes to see the cast in rehearsal as well as meet playwright James Graham and director Daniel Evans (shown below). We were blown away by the story, plans for the staging and all the other cool stuff they have in store!

QUiz

Quiz is a fictional imagining based on real-life events that took place between 2001 and 2003 when a British Army major, his wife and an alleged coughing accomplice were found guilty of cheating to win the £1 million prize on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

The show is split into two parts. The first act presents the prosecution’s case, while the second is reversed so you can consider things from the point of view of the defence. Below are some photos of the cast showing us what this looks like in action.

Graham, the man behind Ink and Labour of Love, started writing Quiz three years ago to examine “the nature of truth and alternative facts”. In this era of reality TV, he says that we’re part of a world where “reality is shifting”. So the question is: can we ever know anything?

Although you can expect profound ideas like this and big populous political themes in Quiz, the production also offers great fun for audience members of all ages. Not only will there be a pub quiz (with grading and prizes!), but you can participate in other game shows like Bullseye and The Price Is Right.

Plus, everyone in the audience is given a keypad. At the end of each act, you’ll get to cast a vote whether you think the trio is guilty or innocent.

Following on from a sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, Quiz is now set to wow crowds in the West End.

According to Evans, the Noël Coward Theatre will be turned into a game show studio. Built on a big lightbox, the set features a revolving, illuminated 3-D cube that changes colour. There’ll be a pair of massive screens to replicate live filming as well as other authentic details like the 10 contestant row chairs for the Fastest Finger First round.

With a compelling script, exciting tech and staging feats, a stellar cast and much more, you won’t want to miss out!
