The live adaptation of the prize winning book is running now at London's Lyric Theatre.
Founded by The Duke of Sussex and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, charity Sentebale is collaborating with the West End’s record-breaking hit musical Hamilton to raise funds for their work with children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa.
Every ticket sold for this very special performance of Hamilton – taking place at the Victoria Palace Theatre on Wednesday 29 August – will raise money and awareness for Sentebale’s vital work.
Sentebale is the charity co-founded by The Duke of Sussex and Prince Seeiso in 2006. The charity began working in Lesotho, a small, land-locked country in South Africa, with an aim to rewrite the future for the children and young people affected by HIV, providing the thousands of children and young people affected by the virus with vital access to care, education and, critically, psychosocial support.
In 2015, Sentebale announced plans to expand into several southern Africa countries by 2020, delivering psychosocial support to 10 to 19-year-olds who were struggling to come to terms with living with HIV.
Jeffrey Seller and Cameron Mackintosh, producers of Hamilton, said: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Sentebale for this special performance. Whilst there has been significant advancement in the treatment and care of HIV, the virus sadly still affects whole communities in many parts of the world, and particularly in southern Africa. We are delighted to help raise funds for this extraordinary cause.”
The Olivier, Tony and Grammy award-winning Hamilton originally opened at the Pubic Theatre in New York in 2015. The Broadway production went on to win 11 Tonys and, in December 2017, the London production opened at the newly restored Victoria Palace Theatre, winning seven Olivier Awards.
The show tells the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the very foundations of the America we know today. The score blends hip hop, jazz, blues, rap, RnB and Broadway – the story of America then, as told by America now.
