ICYMI: Hamilton will hold open auditions in the West End next month
The 11-time Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton is coming to the West End next year and producers have announced they’re holding open auditions, offering UK talent the role of a lifetime!
Producers announced this week that they are looking for singers who can rap and hip hop dancers who should be in their 20s and 30s and of any ethnicity to make up the cast of the West End production.
Hamilton tells the story of America’s birth and founding father Alexander Hamilton using rap, R&B and hip hop songs. Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda recently left the production on Broadway, having played the titular role of Alexander Hamilton since the show hit the Great White Way last year.
The show’s gargantuan popularity has turned it into a theatrical phenomenon; it dominated this year’s Tony Awards, receiving 16 nominations across a number of categories, and fans include the likes of Robert De Niro, Paul McCartney, Judd Apatow, Anna Wintour and President Barack Obama – it’s depiction of US politics and American history has even sparked conversations about the musical being included in Civics classes in the States.
Auditions for the UK production will take place in London, with rehearsals set to begin in 2017.
