King’s Cross Theatre is set to be dismantled

Staff at the pop-up King’s Cross Theatre, currently home to The Railway Children, In the Heights and Lazarus, have confirmed it will close in 2017.

The land currently used by King’s Cross Theatre is to be developed on by Google, who are building their new headquarters.

Speaking to The Stage, Tristan Baker, who co-runs the King’s Cross Theatre, said that the planned dates are changeable depending on the schedule.

“At the moment there is no confirmed date to take down any of the three spaces,” he continues. “The shows may continue and extend. But we have also been actively speaking to other producers about things for the first part of next year.”

At the time of writing, The Railway Children and In The Heights are scheduled to close on 8 January 2017, with Lazarus following on the 22 January.

“We have been doing this for two years now and we have a great team and all the infrastructure and knowledge,” Baker concludes. “For us, it’s not the building of the site, it’s the space. Give us a space and we will build you a theatre. That’s the bit we can do.”
