Foster’s production arrived in the West End 40 years after the original production opened in Broadway in 1977, receiving seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. The last West End production opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre, now home to Hamilton, in 1998.

A 1982 big screen adaptation directed by John Huston included cast members Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters and Albert Finney, before another film adaptation emerged in 2014 featuring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.

The production features classic musical theatre songs including It’s A Hard Knock Life, Tomorrow and East Street.
