SWAG: A Short Silent Comedy Film

Award-winning comedian David Elms has written a short silent comedy film called ‘SWAG’. In a recent interview with The Pleasance Times, David described the plot of the film:

It’s essentially about a guy who’s bored with his life until he buys a hat. And when I say “essentially”, I mean “entirely”.

The film is directed by Matt Holt and I have produced the film. We’ve been developing ‘SWAG’ since January this year and have put a huge amount of time, effort and love into telling this story, making it as creative, cinematic and humorous as possible.

In February, we organised a fundraiser to raise money for the production of the film. It was at The Black Heart in Camden, headlined by Nick Helm, and we raised enough to start filming. Over the past few months, we’ve received very kind donations towards the film so we could pay for the rest of filming and make sure that cast and crew had sandwiches and were always hydrated on long shoots with tight schedules.

The cast is full of some of the best new and emerging talent on the circuit including Ellie White, Mark Davison, Jack Barry, Patrick Turpin, Tash Demetriou, Massive Dad, Lolly Adefope, Orry Gibbens, The Pin, Adam Lawrence, Lizzie Daykin and more! We have also had a fabulous crew working on the film and Gabriel Chernick, an exciting and very talented composer, working on the music, making a silent film “talk” as much as it possibly can.

We have organised a screening on Monday 29th September at the Pleasance Theatre in Islington. We’re very excited to show audiences the film but particularly to say thank you to everyone who has been involved in the process. The screening is also a stand-up gig featuring Adam Hess, Rhys James, Pierre Novellie and Phil Wang (who are also all in the film) and Josie Long headlining! The event is a fundraiser, where all the money from tickets sales is going towards supporting the film, particularly with submission fees to national and international film festivals, (which can be very expensive).

‘SWAG’ is short, silly and a slightly bizarre concept but beautifully filmed and we hope that audiences will enjoy watching it as much as we’ve enjoyed making it!
