Happy birthday to The Lion King!

The West End production of the Disney musical has just turned 20 years old, having first opened its doors in October 1999.

Millions of theatre-goers over the past two decades have flocked to London’s Lyceum Theatre to experience the heart-warming tale of Simba, as he embarks on his journey from wide-eyed cub to King of the Pridelands.

In the video above, cast members from The Lion King’s West End run, alongside some of the production’s behind-the-scenes crew discuss what the musical means to them, the impact it’s had on the West End and how the show has paved the way for more diverse casting in theatre.

A hugely memorable theatre experience that is suitable for all ages, The Lion King continues its record-breaking run at London’s Lyceum Theatre.
