Hamilton leads Jamael Westman and Giles Terera, the title character and rival Aaron Burr in the West End musical, discuss the phenomenon, from what exactly makes performing in the show so special to the excitement of being on stage and their personal favourite moments.

Both Westman and Terera have appeared in the musical since it opened at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre in December 2017.

Hamilton tells the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who built his way from West Indies immigrant to George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War.

With a book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical has become an international smash hit, blending together hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap and RnB.

The production is directed by Thomas Kail, choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, with musical supervision and orchestration by Alex Lacamoire. It is based on Ron Chernow’s biography.

The West End version took home seven Olivier Awards at this year’s ceremony, joining the stateside production’s eleven Tony Awards, as well as the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Giles Terera won the Best Actor In A Musical award at the Olivier Awards, which among the musical’s accolades also saw Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alex Lacamoire acknowledged for their outstanding achievement in music.

We recently headed down to London’s Victoria Palace Theatre for an exclusive backstage tour with fellow award winner Michael Jibson. Watch our video here.
