Having sold out its run in Stratford-Upon-Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Company has brought Imperium to London’s Gielgud Theatre, opening earlier in June. The two part play is based on the bestselling Cicero Novels by Robert Harris.

Theatre fans have the opportunity to see both as part of a true theatrical event, or as a standalone play – each acting as an independent historical thriller.

Imperium I: Conspirator is told through the eyes of Cicero’s secretary, from Cicero’s early work to the end of the Republic.

Imperium II: Dictator follows the rebuilding of the empire, as Cicero attempts to restore power in the Senate during the rise of Julius Ceasar.

Directed by Gregory Doran and adapted by Mike Poulton, the story follows from one to the other, however is equally enjoyable in its individual parts.

The plays star Olivier and Tony Award winner Richard McCabe as Cicero and Joseph Kloska as Tiro.
